missing zabbix-folder under /etc/ after installation

Hi,

I'm new to Zabbix and I'm in trouble while installing the source. I started with the configure-Command and after downloading a bunch of missing packages I was able to get it to work with no errors.

After that I startet "make install" and it creates the server- and agent-files under /usr/local/sbin etc but there is no /etc/zabbix created! And this leads to a not starting server because he's missing his conf-Files.

I'm trying to install on centOS 5.5 as root-User... maybe anyone has a suggestion where to look for the problem?

You need to

mkdir /etc/zabbix

then copy the files from ~/misc/conf/

unfortunatly there are no zabbix_server.conf files on the system. I tried an "updatedb" and "locate zabbix" but no files found. There are only the folders under /usr/local/(s)bin, /var/spool/mail/zabbix and the man-Pages installed.

locate doesn't search the /tmp-path where the installation-files were stored...


Now my problem is, the files under .../misc/conf are all for standard-mysql-configuration... Is there a "simple" way to get postgresql-conform config files or do I have to try everything out by myself?

Not quite sure what you mean there. You would have configured for postgresql when you did your ./configure etc.

The references to mysql in the zabbix_agentd.conf are only example UserParameters and are hashed-out by default anyway.

Thanks again for your reply.

As I stated in my first comment, the ./configure, which was executed with the postgresql-switch, did not create the conf-files in /etc/zabbix. Therefore I have only the conf-files in the installation-directory which haven't even been touched by the ./configure and are therefore still the shipped standard ones with the mysql-defaults (as you say, most of it is hashed out) and I'm not quite sure what to enter for postgresql.

Is there a way to "force" the ./configure to rewrite these conf-files? Or at least to get a log of what ./configure does and what went possibly wrong?

Hi,

Nothing went wrong! This is normal for the conf files to be copied manually from the installation directory.

I guess that most people just starting with zabbix will probably leave the UserParameters hashed out until they get around to learning what they actually do. In your case you can do nothing and everything will work fine.

Follow the link that I sent you about 'Installation from Source'.

If you want UserParameters for postgresql there are a couple on this link, otherwise you will need to search the forum or wiki, or create your own.

Ah, I see... then I misunderstood this in the manual for I followed the "install from source" description during installation...

but after reading "Configure /etc/zabbix/zabbix_server.conf" I was believing that this file should already exist and I only have to configure it, not that the file has to be copied manually (which is not stated in the manual)...

Since all the defaults point to a mysql-Installation I will take a look at your other link and try to get postgresql to work.
