new host and group disappear

Hi guys,

I must be missing something very simple, but when i create a new host, and add it to a new group, i head over to the overview and can see the group and the host.

However after +/-30sec the screen refreshes and gone is my new group and host from the view.

I can still see the host and the group in the configuration screens,...

I must be forgetting to link the host or the group somewhere but for the life of me i can't think where and what.

Any ideas?

I'm running version 1.8.1 in a demo environment and logged on and member of Zabbix Administrators

Ps. after playing a bit more, what happens is, i add a home made template to a host > host shows up in the overview > wait 30 sec's and host is gone inclueding group. So it must have something to do with how i created my custome Template.

What i did was create a custom tempalte called agent_less and just added a simple ping Item to that template.

Both my icmpping and icmppingsec item are set to active

the exact item keys are:

- icmpping[<ip>,<count>,<interval>,<size>,<timeout>]
- icmppingsec[<ip>,<count>,<interval>,<size>,<timeout>,<type>]

i found this strange as in my current production 1.6 version the tiggers don't have those extra bracket stuff

and are

- icmpping
- icmppingsec

Or maby i'm just dump and should have removed the extra overhead to start off with?

To be quite honest I don't even know if my fping and imcp are actually working. I modified the zabbix_server.conf to point the fping to the correct directory and restarted the server but for my new hosted i added in i'm getting Null results when i grep the zabbix_server.log file. Would a simple item > ping show in the server log?

Well i finally found the issue!

I'm running off an Ubuntu install and had changed the fping location in the zabbix_server.conf file but forgot to change the fping6 value

usr/local/sbin/fping => usr/local/bin/fping
usr/local/sbin/fping6 => usr/local/bin/fping6

I'm guessing the host object and the host group vanished after 30 seconds because the host had a Null item count seeing as the ping was not working and correspondingly the hostgroup dropped off the list as it contained 5 hosts with all Null item counts.

What ever the reason it seems to be working great now ;-)
