    Trouble with proxy setup

    Hello,

I'm new to Zabbix (about 2 weeks in) after being a Nagios user for many years and more recently, a Zenith Infotech user. The initial setup was fairly straight-forward, but I ran into trouble when I attempted to setup a proxy. I'm able to monitor both local and remote hosts, but when I throw a proxy into the mix, it will not work. When the proxy is created on the web interface of the Zabbix server, it sees it right away, so it's not a connectivity problem. I'm also able to telnet on port 10051 from server to proxy and vice versa. I'll try to give as much information as possible.

My Zabbix server is hosted on EC2 and has ports 10050 and 10051 open to the public, as well as ping. My test environment is at 2 computers and a VMWare instance at my house. Here are the details.

    Zabbix server - 184.73.xxx.xxx
    My house's external IP - 24.0.xxx.xxx
    My internal LAN - 192.168.1.0/24
Zabbix proxy (VMWare instance with bridged networking) - 192.168.1.103
Host attempting to connect to proxy - 192.168.1.100

I have a Linksys wireless router acting as my default gateway, but I'm forwarding ports 10050 and 10051 to 192.168.1.103. Firewalls are disabled on all hosts.

I've attached my config files. I've also ensured that my host names in the config files match what's entered into the web interface of the Zabbix server, case and all. One are I'm a bit confused about however is which IP address to use when adding a host that's being monitored by a proxy in the web interface. For example, when I was monitoring a remote host without the proxy involved, I would put the external IP address of my house and that was port-forwarded to the host in the LAN. Now that I'm using a proxy and it's not a direct connection, which IP address should I use for the host when configuring it in the web interface of the Zabbix server. Thank you in advance for your help

Nevermind. I came home and found it working. I guess I wasn't giving it long enough between test periods

Yeah, that has bitten me a few times. There is a parameter in the proxy_server.conf that tells the proxy how often to check for new hosts. I believe by defulat it is set to an hour. You can change this to whatever suits your needs.

I don't know anyone who wants to wait an hour for a proxy to pick up a newly assigned host. I have mine set to 120 seconds.

      ### Option: ConfigFrequency
      # How often proxy retrieves configuration data from Zabbix Server in seconds.
      #
      # Mandatory: no
      # Range: 0-3600*24*7
      # Default:
      # ConfigFrequency=3600
