User Macros in Item Description in 1.8.3

I have just installed Zabbix 1.8.3.
One of the features I was most looking forward to was having user macros like {$MYMACRO} fully evaluated in item descriptions so that they would make sense.
From my reading it appeared that this was going to be done in 1.8.3 but it does not appear to work. Can anyone else confirm that this still does not work?

    Thanks.

they are expanded if you use a user macro in item key, then reference it in the description with the positional variable ($1, $2 etc).

are you interested in a different use case ?

      Richlv,
I was trying to use a user macro to be more informative in the item description wuthout actually using the user macro as a parameter in the item key.

ok, then it would be a new feature request on the tracker.
make sure to add it as a subtask of https://support.zabbix.com/browse/ZBXNEXT-353

          Richlv,

I achieved what I wanted by adding the user macro as a fake parameter so that I could refer to it in the description.

          Thanks for your help

sure - but could you please add a feature request as well (noting the workaround) ?
that would allow to keep track of things and maybe get it implemented properly later
