    compatibility issue

    Hi everyone,

I'm installing Zabbix 1.8.3 to monitor a group of 40 VMs that belong to a bank and that have been loaned to us for our development project......but that bank already installed zabbix 1.6.6 without telling me.... but i dont have access to their web interface............

    1. Can i install two different agents on 1 VM ?
    2. if not, is the 1.8.3 server compatible with a 1.6.6 agent?
    3. will i have to update everything??

    thanks for your replies

Yes, but you have to make sure that you don't overwrite existing setup and you'll have to use a different TCP port for your agent.
I'd suggest to use already installed agent (see below).

Zabbix 1.8 server can use an 1.6 agent (we do it, most of our agents are still in 1.6).
You have to make sure that you don't use agent parameters that were introduced in 1.8 (it is normally documented in agent description http://www.zabbix.com/documentation/...s#zabbix_agent)

You need to add your Zabbix server in the list of allowed servers in agent configuration. See Server parameter in zabbix_agentd.conf

There is one restriction in this setup: active checks are only reported to first server in the list. If active checks are already used by the other Zabbix server, you will have to use passive checks only.
