    Some triggers not causing actions

    Hi all,

Have an interesting one. I have had 1 Action 'rule' during my runup of Zabbix. IF TRIGGER VALUE = "PROBLEM" then Send Email.

It has been working exactly as one hopes, until recently.

I added a Web Scenario, in addition to the 20 odd others I have, and noticed that when the trigger tripped as a result of us taking the website we were monitoring down, the trigger alerted me on th Dashboard, and generated an event saying "PROBLEM", but it didnt perform an Action. I dont mean simply that I didnt get an email, but the little counter on the dashboard under "Last 20 Issues" where it displays # of actions taken, none are listed.

I checked the Action rule, and it is still the same.

We took a site down that had been in as a scenario for a while, and it worked. By which I mean it performed the Action as expected. But the new site didnt. I have tried a number of triggers on both reasonably recent monitors and old ones, Host triggers vs Web Scenario triggers and some are working, some arent, but there is only 1 ACTION rule for them all, which is what I have said above: IF Trigger Value ="PROBLEM" then send an email alert.

Some that have always worked dont, and others do. I cant yet find a common thread between what works and what doesnt, but am just tossing this out there for ideas.

Not sendmail. Not a media config issue. Action rule seems correct as it does work when items are performing actions.... but some just seem to be ignoring it. Anyone have any thoughts?

    Cheers,

    JC

Did you check the Administration -> Audit page to see if any actions were taken or attempted?

      Hi!

Thanks for replying. Yes, I did check, and the actions dont even appear to be being attempted. They dont show up under Audit -> Actions.

There are actions being performed, based on the same rule, and they work fine. Just some arent and have been over and over the Host/Item/Trigger/Actipn config screens so often now I have 'haze brain' and just dont see what I am looking for anymore

      Cheers,

      JC

        [RESOLVED]

Ok, going back to the Audit list helped me find the delinating factor here. It was based on what group the host/scenario was in.

Turns out that it was a permissions issue. There had been a change to user that the Action sent the message to. 'Read Access' had been removed on some of these groups. Added the groups to the list of groups the user had read access to and it worked perfectly.

Sorry about that. Freaking PEBKAC error on my part.

Untergeek, appreciate the reply. It set me thinking on the right path. Appreciate it!
