When and how often are actions executed on discovery?

    Hi.

Can someone tell me when Zabbix executes action on discovery?

    BACKGROUND
    ==============
I have got around 500 hosts discovered, but I am not able to move hosts to particular Host Group using action on discovered hosts.

The other day it moved just 10 hosts to particular group. I have got around 500 host discovered, but the action seems to be executed.

So I really do not understand the behaviour...

How many Discoverer processes do you have? In your zabbix_server.conf, what is on the line that says:

    StartDiscoverers=

If you're using the default of 1 with 500 servers, that could explain the delay.

      Hi.

I configured StartDiscoverers=50, however the discovery seems to not work properly.

I looks like that there is no logic. Servers are being removed after long time being offline despite the fact that the settings is configured for 4 days.

The Monitoring >> Discovery list includeds hosts 70 days old. How can I remove it from this list? Servers which off-line for such long time does not have to be in this list.

I would expect that the discovery is able to find new host the day it was started, however that seems to be not the case.

Currently quite weird behaivour. I would rather have some consistent behavour and the ability to run the scan manually if I want.

For exaple this rule does not work:

      discovery APACLAB VLAN1
      -----
      Uptime/Downtime >= "600"
      Discovery status = "Up"
      Service type = "ICMP Ping"
      Host IP = "172.16.0.0/21"
      -----
      Add to group "APACLAB VLAN1"
      Send message to User "jirik"
      ------

I follow documentation, but it simply does not work. And I have about 50 hosts discovered in that 172.16.0.0/21 subnet.

What does the Discovery "rule" look like? You've shown the Discovery "Action".

If you're doing discovery based on an ICMP ping, you may have to add the step of "Add Host" to your discovery. I'm not sure it's always implied by add to group.

If your discovery "rule" does a search for Zabbix agents, for example, it will likely auto-add hosts it finds with an "add to group" action. With network service discovery, Discovery does not check reverse DNS or anything and so adding a host must be done on purpose, with an action.

At least, this is my understanding and experience.

Where is the Start Discovers option set? (what file)

I also have wondered what is the time interval that discovery looks to find new servers.

I removed some servers via the console, and zabbix agent is still running, but it has not found them after about an hour.

          thanks for the help.

            Check in the zabbix_server.conf

Discovery is not yet automatic (v2.0 is alpha right now). You need to configure conditions for discovery in the UI in Configuration->Discovery.

any recommendation on what the setting should be to the number of servers?

I am trying to monitor about 100 servers.
