I cannot edit map elements

I don't know why my map elements including links suddenly became uneditable.
When I mouse-click them, there's no edit panel jump out.
some minutes ago I was editing them, but then I can not get the edti panel out, only seeing the icon blinked.

Could some one help me ? Thanks in advance !

Thanks, Tim. I'm very confused that this morning the map editor got good itself. I did nothing to it. For I am using 1.8.4, those problem about database and php coding seem to be settled in 1.8.4. But the discussions you offer really helped me much. I still don't know how and why the map gets normal,maybe because it had rest for a night? I hope I can come across that problem some time again.
