    TELNET agent check

    Hello everyone
    Zabbix 1.8.4 on RHEL 5.5

I`m trying to set up TELNET agent check.
Zabbix is not compiled with SSH. However, in my personal opinion, this has nothing to do with telnet.

    Item configurations:

    Type: TELNET agent
    Key: item
    User name: ****
    Password: ****
    Executed script: echo 1
    Type of information: Numeric (unsigned)
    Data type: Decimal

    In zabbix_server.log can see following
Parameter [Test:item] is not supported, old status [0]

Anybody knows what can I do in order to resolve following issue?
    Thanks in advance!!!

    Solved

I changed item key on telnet.run[172.30.XXX.XXX] and eventually it worked

However, really would like to know why it worked this way, cause according to manual it should be telnet.run[<unique short description>,<ip>,<port>,<encoding>]
And some folks simply name item key whatever they like to… is this kind of behavior somehow related on version of zabbix…

      Hi friends,

      I have few questions:-
      1) I want to monitor the CAS server connectivity with AD server; i.e. ADSSO service. I need to check the port 88. i want to check this without Agent.
Does TELNET Agent will help me.

      2) I dont know, how to create that TELNET Agent item. I searched a lot for its description or details but not found.

Please help me, this is very urgent and critical for me. As i have a dead line or i will be on the line of death.

To create TELNET agent item you have to change item type and feel up mandatory fields like key, user name, password, and so on.

I`m not sure that TELNET Agent will meet your need thought.

I would consider writing custom script, and using Zabbix trapper item with it. Let me explain how it works. Currently I`m monitoring variety of services/applications using this method (on linux/unix machines). Basically what I`m doing is, on my monitoring server, using cron I`m executing custom script (usually perl scripts) this script via SSH or via TELNET is connecting to remote server and executes command(s), output of executed command(s) I`m writing to file on my monitoring server. Pretty much simple so far next step is to parse file and send to zabbix server necessary information, here comes zabbix_sender which passes data to zabbix trapper item.

I`m not saying that this is one and only way to accomplish your goal, NO someone might know much easiest way... This is what I would do
