    zabbix won't start after installing

    Hi All,

I installed zabbix on my OpenSuSe 11.4 through Software Manager. I also ran the sql scripts manually since it looks like the Software Manager didn't do that step.

I am getting this error after trying to launch ./zabbix-server start as root from /etc/rc.d

If I go to the zabbix-server.log in /var/log/zabbix I see this:

33781:20110917:011017.653 Starting Zabbix Server. Zabbix 1.8.7 (revision 21394)

I already made sure the user 'zabbix' password 'zabbix' exists in mysql so I am at a loss as to what I did wrong here.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

yes, i can connect manually using the root as well as the 'zabbix' user i created. i can also connect using the zabbix user in phpMyAdmin and it looks like the permissions are set up equivalent to root.

is there somewhere else i can go to get more detail about what is hanging it up?

      thank you!

is there any way to check the mysql log to see why it cannot connect through that /var/log/mysql socket?

          Thanks!

Or please post the complete config, but just the lines that don't start with a '#':
              Code:
              grep -v ^\# zabbix_server.conf

                you could also check with
                mysql_config --socket
whether your mysql installation actually uses /var/lib/mysql as socket.
If it doesn't change parameter DBSocket in zabbix_server.conf to the socket used.
