    What configuration is wrong?

    I have 2 questions.

    1) how do I configure the pollers on Zabbix? I edite the zabbix_server.conf file, changed parameters for discover and offline, but not matter how small I make the number it takes serveral minutes (once almost 24 hours) to eventually discover the server was not pingable. Where did I go wrong, or what is the best way to setup pollers.

    2) Can't seem to figure out how to alert me when a discovered machine is not pingable. I see "triggers", but all I want is to alert when ping stops and then notification when it has "come online" again.

Is it possible to get ping alerts with NO agent, and could someone tell me how to best configure either of these?

It is possible with custom script (bash for instance), and zabbix trapper

The discovery process in zabbix is used to create hosts in the configuration, and assign templates to them.
it's not supposed to track the hosts.

what you want is in the documentation : a discovery rule to scan your network, a discovery action to create the hosts and associate them with a template, containing an icmping item , a trigger for your pings.
      and then you setup alerting...
