Agent running on same host as server sending empty string

We recently changed IP addresses on my zabbix server machine and 3 out of the 4 hosts it monitors. The host that didn't change IP seems fine. The other 3 are only returning empty strings. Even the agent running on the same machine as the zabbix server is returning empty strings(??) according to the server logs.

In the agent logs on the not responding hosts it says that the server dns name is not found even though it's correct and is pingable, etc..

I've tried telnetting to the server which seems fine but when I telnet to the new ip hosts the telnet connection shuts down immediately. In the conf file for the agents I've always used host names. I can ping the hosts from the server just fine, ssh to them, etc..

I've tried rebooting the server and one of the hosts with a new ip, no luck.

I'm really out of ideas at this point..

I got it..

Some dim bulb decided to hard code names to ip addresses in our hosts file on the machines.. probably too impatient to wait for a dns update the last time we changed.. grrr...
