Duplicate emails after removing users from group

The other day I had an event which caused a large number of emails to be sent to my list of users in a single group. To stop the emails I removed the users from the group temporarily. Once the event was over I added them back into the group.

Now they all get duplicate emails for each event. They all get exact duplicates of all alert emails. I have not changed any triggers from my original configurations.

I have tried restarting the server and restarting postfix to no avail.

I am now forced to turn off emails until I figure it out. Help!

I found a workaround where I can assign them to another group and email numbers are correct. I guess one should disable email instead of removing users from a group in spamming situations.
