I have a Zabbix server running on Ubuntu 12.10. Zabbix version is 2.0.2 (1:2.0.2+dfsg-3), from the standard Ubuntu repositories.
After upgrading the server from Ubuntu 12.04 and Zabbix 1.8 (all using standard Ubuntu apt tools and repos), any alerts that happen on our Windows hosts cause Zabbix to send out a loop of alert emails, thousands per day and increasing daily. I also have about 30 Linux (Debian, CentOS and Ubuntu) servers, but this problem doesn't seem to happen with Linux hosts at all.
We've tried removing and re-installing the Zabbix client from these Windows hosts, and have upgraded to the 2.0.2 client as well. Now we get hundreds of errors about the client version changing alongside the thousands of other errors about CPU usage, memory usage, reboots etc. Essentially every alert that has happened on those servers since the Zabbix upgrade two weeks ago is failing to clear even when we acknowledge it in the web UI, and the email alerts are looping and escalating in number.
I've seen similar problems reported, for example here and here, but those all seem to deal with older versions of Zabbix and happened in 2009 and were fixed in Zabbix updates.
Does anyone have any ideas? I'd love to hear any suggestions you might have.
