    Actions??? ZABBIX 1.1beta12

    Ok, Im running: ZABBIX 1.1beta12

So i have been racking my brain with actions and not having any luck. It just is not working. Below are some config details.

I have a media type setup:
    Description Email Media
    Type email
    SMTP server mail.gamewatch.com
    SMTP helo mail.gamewatch
    SMTP email [email protected]

Admin user has email address assigned: [email protected]

    I have created a trigger:
    {Host.Linux:tcp,25.last(0)}=0

On hosts where there is no smtp daemon listening the trigger seems to be in 0 state. So the trigger looks to be working.

    I created an action:
    Action type Send Message
    Source trigger
    Conditions Trigger severity = "High"
    Send message to Single User
    User Admin
    Repeat Repeat
    Number of repeats 5
    Delay between repeats 600
    Status enabled

I swear i have made a thousand config changes and given that there were problems in the last couple beta versions with actions i thought that there may be a bug but it is in the change as fixed in this version.

If anyone could help me though this i would so be thankfull, ive prob spent 20 hours on this alone.

    Please help!!

    Thanks for the reply.

I tried that and the triggers still seem to be working as the trigger is showing as true where the port 25 is not listening.

But still no action?? Seems it is the actions that is not working.. triggers seem to be fine.

You know, When i look at the status of triggers page i see the triggers set to true and show actions i can see the action hitting... the weird part is that no mail is sent..

What method does zabbix use to send a mail? Is there something that i need installed or configured? I have sendmail on the box.

In the beta12 patch it appears that the delay field was removed and it looks like something is still calling to that field.

          Upgraded to 1.1

Corrected the server crashing issues, was a version issues.

Still none of my actions are working. I upgraded the server and client with no luck as well.

There has to be something im doing wrong here as i dont here anyone else complaining.

Im going to try a complete rebuild of the database.

            Same Problem

I seem to be having the same problem. I have played with Media settings, Action settings, and varying which Trigger I'm trying to report but, no matter what I try, my actions never come on.

Looking through the log file, I never even see a line with the string "action" in it.

I would love to debug this if someone could get me started where to look.

(unfortunately I'm not sure anyone who can solve problems reads these things because I've yet to ever receive a reply to any of my posts)

              script action

for what it's worth, i also setup a script media type just to make sure the problem isn't with my email configuration, and that doesn't work either.

the script a 1 line bash script that logs when it was called.

this is the only thing keeping from using zabbix in production, so I am really anxious to get this resolved.

                  Actions???

Has anyone been able to get this working on any system Linux or Win32? Has anyone been able to get any kind of message to notify a trigger condition change. I really would like to use this to replace Nagios, but without notifications its just another pretty gui.

I have been having the same problem. I have been fiddling with this for a couple hours and this thread is the forst one I found when I started searching the forums. The first version I ever tried was 1.1beta9 (on 1.1 stable now) so I am a new user and I can't rule out that I am doing something wrong.

I finally figured this out this morning. I would call this a bug, but I would be happy if it was just better documented or if the config tabs involved were more obvious somehow.

I have tried redefining triggers and actions in all sorts fo different ways and ultimately, none worked. If you look at the actions tab, there are none listed, even though there should be many.

I just configued the "Email" media for one of my users and now the actions appear to be working. There are several check boxes for severity listed. I checked all of them. My current assumption is that if you don't check the box for severity "Warning" then no trigger with that severity will send you an e-mail.

I had falsely assumed that a action would be triggered even though the user was not properly defined. It appears this is not the case. If your user does not have the media type "Email" defined with the proper severity boxes checked, I think you get NOTHING. The individual user's media config tab appears on the far right of the users tab. It is on the same line, each user will have the word "media" listed and it is clickable. I really wish that was more obvious...

Anyway, quirky behaviour, but it is working for me now.

How else would zabbix know where to send the email.......
(an error message in the server log would have been nice though, did you have the log level set at full verbosity?)

                          Fixed?

As stated above in my original post you can see where i had the email type. That was not my problem.

After prob about 10 hours of troubleshooting this i completly dropped my database and reimported a fresh 1.1 copy, and reconfigured everything.

Once i did that everything works.

Now, while i could have had something configured improperly, the amount of times i looked at this im not sure that there could have been a config error.

Im guessing, that my config changes along with the upgrade process did something that my system did not like.

I did have the server daemon in verbose, and after sorting though the miles of data i was not able to find anything.

                            flushing?

Oh well, I kinda figured flushing the database and starting over may be my only recourse, but I was hoping I could avoid that.

I guess I'll try it this evening (my carefully constructed configuration be damned!) and post the results.

                              fixed.

dropping and recreating the database (using the 1.1-final schema and data) resulted in working actions.

                              go figure.

just hope I don't have to do this again...
