    2.06 active checks not working

    Hi,
    we are using 2.06 server and clients and are not able to receive any data from the hosts with active checks.

    The hosts are out on the internet connecting back to the server and are setup correctly using discovery so server ports and firewalls seem to be ok.

    using the OS windows template and the following config on the windows agent

    StartAgents=0
    ServerActive=123.51.xxx.xxx
    LogFile=c:\zabbix\zabbix_agentd.log

    under GUI and "latest data" there is no information.

    sample of host debug

    I've never tried it that way, but I would put StartAgents to at least 1 and restart the agent. See if that gives you any resolution.

    You may also need to define Server= even if you are only using Active checks.

    I'd at least do those as troubleshooting steps.

      I'd also take a look at the Zabbix server log and see if there was anything pertinent in there.

        thanks, I tried your suggestion above and it did not work. I have / am looking in the server log for anything obvious.

        When I set up the host in the gui, what is the interface setting supposed to be for the "active check" hosts?

        you cannot put a zero value in the ip addess / hostname or port. If I put a zero in there, or 0.0.0.0 it reads the server agent config. If I put the internet IP of the host in there, zabbix complains its unreachable (because it is, as expeced)

        I dont really understand why its not working, I have set it up according to the documentation and dont believe I am doing anything out of the ordinary by using active only checks.

        I must be missing something simple ...

        a frustrating day

        cheers

          I use a mix of passive and active checks. I also use auto-registration of the hosts. Prior to the introduction of Auto-registration, for active checks to work, you had to have the value on the host in zabbix_agentd.conf for Hostname= be an exact match (including case sensitive) as to what you manually entered in the GUI on the Zabbix server.

          So if you are not using auto-registration, you would want to check that and make sure those are correct. But if they weren't correct, in the Zabbix server log you would see many entries of "sending active checks to <host>, <host> not found".

          Maybe Rich will see this post and be able to pinpoint what is wrong.
