    ICMP Monitoring

    Hi,

    I am new to Linux and to Zabbix. I have managed to install/setup Zabbix along with fping. I want the ability to monitor with icmp on some devices and have created an item that uses icmppingsec - see attachment for my settings. I can use fping from the root.

    The problem I have is that the status allways goes to not supported with an error of number of packets is not between 1 and 1000.

    I have looked through loads of forums and can see no mention of this anywhere

    Could anyone offer me any advice

    I have the below error code in Audit

    items.status: 3 => 0
    items.error: number of packets [<packets>] is not between 1 and 10000 =>

    In your key where you have all those variables in between <> you have to change those to actual information and remove the brackets. Variables stay separated by commas.

    For example, item key icmpping[,,200,,500] would specify that the interval between individual pings is 200 milliseconds, timeout - 500 milliseconds, and all other parameters are left at their defaults.

    If you just wanted to define the target IP and leave the rest at their defaults, it would look like icmpping[12.34.56.789,,,,]

        If I want to make this as a template what do i need to set the target as? If i fill in an ip address it will use that Ip for every host. When I apply a template to a host it greys out any option for me to change it

          @davidandrews: You'll have to use host macro's if you want a different IP address used for the SNMP key
