Vmware Monitor Host Setting (version 2.2)

    Hi All,

I am not quite understand the below setting:

    Host configuration

To use VMware simple checks the host must have the following user macros defined:

{$URL} - VMware service (vCenter or vSphere) SDK URL (https://servername/sdk).
{$USERNAME} - VMware service user name
    {$PASSWORD} - VMware service {$USERNAME} user passsword

    As I know {$URL} should be https://{vCenter Server IP}/sdk

But I am not sure what is {$USERNAME} & {$PASSWORD}?
Any one can tell me the details of {$USERNAME} & {$PASSWORD}?
    - Physical EXSI Server Console Login User Name & Pwd?
    - The AD user name & pwd what we use to login vSphere Client with?
    - Other account?
    Thanks.

It is the account which is allowed for CIM access.

Edit: you may want to define a new user with READ_ONLY access, just for safety reasons...

Additionally, if we need to set up more accounts, can this be done? How do we add these please?

What about having different templates with different predefined users inside?
Then just apply the correct template to your hosts.

No, the user account must be created on the vCenter client, with read-only permissions to your infrastructure. It can be a Windows domain or a local server account. It's the same kind of account as the one you use to connect using the VI client, but with RO permissions (because it's just for monitoring).

That depends on if gavind/kalons connects to the vCenter server or the ESX boxes directly.

If the first is the case then VMware's SSO (single sign on) is used and that is somewhat picky but uses ONE account for all ESX servers managed by the vCenter server.

For the later, one could have individual user accounts defined on the ESX server level and thus they can be secified in the templates, accordingly.
