Your cache usage looks fine also. From a performance perspective, everything is OK with your setup.

Regarding the ICMP pingers, no, it is not your StartPollers= setting.

    It is StartPingers= and has a setting range of 0 - 255
The default is probably 1. Try putting that to 5 and restarting your Zabbix server process.

      Graph Gap

      tchjts1,
I have changed the StartPingers=5 and still seeing gaps. I am also seeing a high number (258) of "QUEUE OF ITEMS TO BE UPDATED" as shown on the attached screen shot.

        Graph Gap

        tchjts1,
I also have 114 SNMPv2 items with an interval of 30 seconds. This seems like it could be causing some of the issues but not sure if this would have that big of an impact.

Yeah, the pingers wouldn't solve your gap issue. My reasoning for wanting to see all those graphs was to make sure your system wasn't choking due to lack of resources. Your Zabbix setup is running fine from a performance perspective. I did want you to tweak your pings a little bit to bring that % down though.

As to what is causing your gaps, I don't know. I recall seeing a recent thread about the use of bulk SNMP requests. You might try doing a search on that phrase and see if you can find it and post to that thread, or maybe someone will chime in here.

            tchjts1,
After looking back at the graphs, I saw that on the "data gathering process busy" graph, the "busy discover processes" and "unreachable poller processes" were both at %100!. This apparently is not good. I made the following changes and now the gaps are gone in the data and both processes are now within normal ranges on the graph.

Added StartDiscoverers=50 to the config file
Added StartPollersUnreachable=20 to the config file
            Changed UnreachablePeriod=60 to UnreachablePeriod=120

Bottom line is, adding the template you recommended and messing with the settings allowed me to fix this nagging issue and I really appreciate your help and direction on this.

I am a bit confused as to why you are having to add missing configuration parameters to your zabbix_server.conf file

Why are they missing to begin with? It sounds like you are running with a very abbreviated conf file. I don't know why people do this instead of using a complete conf file that has all items, including the headers which describe what each item is, what the range is, etc.

                Graph Gap

                tchjts1,
Yea, I inherited this system and I'm not sure either why the defaults were still in place. I found a configuration file on the system called zabbix_server.conf.DEFAULT

I assume that's the one your talking about, if it is, it has almost everything commented out. The links you provided titled "Monitoring how busy Zabbix processes" by richlv is good information but there is no recommendations as to the sizing the values for the entries that were left out on my configuration.

It's fine that the defaults were in place. My only concern is when abbreviated conf files are used. As you have seen in your case, there were parameters missing that you didn't know existed. Had you had the full conf file, you may have found the ones that needed adjusting. And better yet, the full conf file gives a short description of what each parameter does.

That sounds like the one. If everything is commented out, that is a stock config file and it will use all of the default settings, even for lines that are commented. And I will tell you the way that I make adjustments in my conf file, is to leave the default line there preceded with the comment, and I make a new line for any modifications I make. That way I always know what the default setting was.

At any rate, I am glad you got the graph gaps resolved now.
