Greetings all, as you can see this is my first post, and I come to you defeated. I am trying to get zabbix-1.1beta8 running on a redhat 4 enterprise test machine. I am by no means a Linux master, what I know I've learned in the past 2 weeks or so. My problem is this: I cannot for the life of me get my zabbix server to talk to its agents. I have agentd running on the same machine as my server and I figure that getting it to to talk to the server will be the best way to start off. Right now the error I'm getting from the zabbix host configuration screen is:
Got empty string from [Host.Unix] IP [10.0.0.56] Parameter [proc_cnt[mysqld]]
(as you can see I used the default template Host.Unix)
Now during my hopeless wandering through many desolate forum posts from age-old threads whose topics have crumbled to dust by now, I have seen that the most common problem with the inner workings of zabbix is either:
A) zabbix_agentd.conf is not pointing to the server - My redhat box has 2 IPs, one for a 10.0.0.x network, and a 192.168.0.x network. I've tried both but I don't think this is the problem. I also tried putting the loopback in there just for kicks since its the same box.
B) Issues with zabbix_suckerd and zabbix_trapperd - I really just don't understand how these little boogers work. I'm pretty sure they handle input and output from the zabbix server, but how do I know if they're running correctly?
Any help would be awesome. Zabbix looks like a brilliant program, I can't wait to see it in action!
Thanks,
-JabberWocky
