1 device with multiple IP address

Hi I'm very new to Zabbix but so far I like what I see(just a bit of a learning curve!)

Could someone recommend the best way to monitor 1 device with more than 1 IP address.

What I would like to do is monitor a router via ping. I'd like to monitor the internal IP and the WAN IP.

I've added a host and entered the internal IP address under the "Agent". Is this correct? I couldn't find an option to just tell Zabbix the IP address to monitor.

As you can see, you can add more IP addresses for Agent interfaces (take a look on button Add under double up-down arrow).

But after that you have to create as many Items as many Agent IP addresses you have and connect that Items to correct IP addresses (field Host interface). Remember that the Key in Item's description also has to be different.

Is it possible to have 1 host with 2 IP addresses and then link a template to ping those 2 IP addresses.

Or do I manually have to add items for each interface IP?

1) Create a host
2) link Template ICMP Ping
3) add the second IP address
4) Unlink (NOT UNLINK-and-CLEAR!!) Template ICMP Ping
5) Clone each ICMP Check and change the Host Interface/key name.

I would recommend to treat that host as two hosts, Thus you have finer granular control over your items.

As regular. We monitor via SNMP, use LLD scripts and have a slightly modified default template:

I cannot understand that it is a problem.
12 Ethernet interfaces in the switch with one IP address - it's a simple task for Zabbix.
If you have 12 IP interfaces in one device it looks more like router, not a switch.
Then I ask you - "What do you want to do if any of 12 IP addresses will go off? Do you want to get 12*(amount of physical interfaces) Alerts that "The item has gone"? Or you prefer to get only one Alert that "IP-address not available" and hide all leftover alerts under Dependencies?

I'm going through something similar; I have a router that I monitor the network, but it has two internet links... So I put an external IP, and add one below for the other external IP.

My idea is that when a link goes down, it uses the other link to collect information from the router.

However, when a link stops working, it is not automatically changing the links.
