need help to setup a windows 7 zabbix agent

Quite new to zabbix, just have server (2.0.4) installed on ubuntu 12.04 server and a couple of agents on ubuntu machines. Now tried a few times to set up a zabbix agent on a windows 7 machine. The installation seems to be working and the window service seem to be running.

However, got an error on server: cannot connect to agent. After some digging, here is what I found out:

telnet to agent 10050 from server: connection refused.

suspect window firewall issues, but got the same connection refused error if firewall is completely turned off.

Both server and agent are on the same LAN, a very simple case. ping to agent ok, agent listen to 10050 tcp.

Any help is greatly appreciated! I just want to get zabbix to monitor net traffic from this window box as it seems to generate strange outgoing traffic.

    Thanks!

Check the value of "ListenIP" on your agent's config file.

Can you telnet from the Windows 7 box to "localhost:10050" or "<LAN ip address>:10050" successfully?

The zabbix agent on windows only specified if I remember correctly:

      Server ip
      ServerActive ip
      Hostname

I have used port scan on window box and it has shown the port 10050 open with unknown service name.

I tried again telnet agent:10050 from server, it also showed unknown service error. I will have to try to install a telnet program on windows box later (not at physical location at the moment).

don't know what's going on, the "Z" button turned green now. I have not done anything differently.

but now I have a new question:

I do not have a window template to work with, not like the linux servers. I have to create a new host, new items, etc. I have a item agent.ping which seems to work now (green).

But problem is when I tried to create an item as network traffic (outgoing) using key: net.if.out[if,<mode>]. it complained as "not supported". I checked the same item on a linux host, it said net.if.out[eth0]. I did the same for windows box, it did not work. I must have missed something very simple.

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated!

          I - personally - use .MSI installer from w_w_w.suiviperf.com/zabbix/index.php

It install agent, install Zabbix Agent Service and do some startup configuration.

          Working like a charm.
          Sincerely yours,
          Aleksey

From Zabbix Templates page you can download Windows Template and Windows Template Enhanced.

Just use it because of Discovery rules and don't try to create your own Item about network interfaces.
Almost any Windows PC has a different name for Network interface which also can be easily changed in any time.
Discovery rule cares about it and automatically create the correct Items/Triggers/Graphs.

            Aleksey

To Aib, for next windows box, I will try the installer.

The template works like a charm. It discovered lots more items than I need!

              Many thanks!

It's not important to wait until next windows box.
Just start the installation of fresh version of agent over the current one.
                Sincerely yours,
                Aleksey

When I tried the second window box, the installer program did not work. After some dig, I finally got to the bottom of it. It was the windows' firewall. Simply enabled zabbix in firewall, I now have three windows agents working.
