mysql_connect(): The mysql extension is deprecated ...

Much to my surprise, I've got Zabbix up and running and using it to monitor my router! However I'm getting the "mysql_connect(): The mysql extension is deprecated" etc message on the web interface. The graphs, and maybe other features, don't work either.

I'm using on an Ubuntu laptop:

Zabbix Server 2.0.6
PHP 5.5.3-1 Ubuntu 2.2
Mysql 5.5.35-0 Ubuntu 0.13.10.2

Googling reveals that it is (or was) a known issue.

Is there a fix for this problem, please?

[SOLVED] mysql_connect(): The mysql extension is deprecated ...

I built and installed from the 2.2.2 sources and now all's OK. (There's no package for Xubuntu 13.10.)
