Could somebody please confirm that the problem with the too much growing size of innodb database is fixed in Zabbix 2.2 (and the corresponding MySQL which comes with it)?

Did you read the linked URLs?
If so you would have seen that this is MySQL's standard behaviour for InnoDB tables if "innodb_file_per_table" is not set.

It has less-to-zero to do with zabbix.

The appliances from Zabbix have this param set since 2.0.9 (IIRC).

For self-compiled packages you have to set that for yourself.
