Increasing Pollers, discoverers etc stops Zabbix

I'm trying to increase the number of discoverers from 10 to 20 but zabbix then refuses to start with "too many database connections"
I've increase max_mysql_connections to 1000 but it still does the same.
    Any idea?

Check the thread "zabbix server dies with mysql max_user_connections problem"
There are some useful configuration tips.
    Sincerely yours,

      doh.... silly me.
not sure what went wrong as i altered my.cnf with what mysqltuner recommended. it didn't really make any difference.
i was then browsing about with webmin and used the mysql server config in there.
it overwrote my.cnf and now i can increase everything.
i've currently got 150 pollers running but if i increase this to 200, zabbix still shows it as 24% busy,
I have 16gb ram to play on a dual xeon with raid 10 and have currrently allocated 4gb to mysql although i will put this up to 8gb.

should i keep increasing the poller processes in an attempt to lower the busy time?
