    What's the total memory that Zabbix server can take?

    Hey,

    What is the total memory that Zabbix server (2.2) can allocate? What parameters should I take under consideration?

    For example - considering following configuration what's the maximum of memory that might be allocated?

    Memory related params:
    VMwareCacheSize=8M
    CacheSize=128M
    HistoryCacheSize=16M
    TrendCacheSize=8M
    HistoryTextCacheSize=16M

    Additional params that can have impact:

    StartPollers=15
    StartPollersUnreachable=1
    StartTrappers=5
    StartDiscoverers=1
    StartHTTPPollers=1
    StartJavaPollers=3
    StartVMwareCollectors=10

    Thanks in advance

    Hello,

    You can see the maximum limits of each values in your zabbix_server.conf file comments.

    It is considered safe to set all cache values to at least 64M for a start in larger environments.

    Also I noticed that you have ValueCacheSize= parameter missing in your post. Please check whether it exists in your configuration file.

    All the other parameters can be adjusted only according to your environment needs. You have to analyze your Zabbix server performance yourself and then find the right amount of memory and pollers needed. Please take a look at these articles here:
    In the past, quite often Zabbix users have been puzzled regarding some server tuning parameters – for example, how many pollers do they need? It was usually determined based on experience, testing and a bit of guesstimating. No more fuzzy attempts – get hard facts with Zabbix 1.8.5. UPDATED 2011.11.02: new downloadable template version v2 […]

    One of the questions for those of us that use Zabbix on a large scale is “Just how much data can Zabbix ingest before it blows up spectacularly?” Some of the work I’ve been doing lately revolves around that question. I have an extremely large environment (around 32000+ devices) that could potentially be monitored entirely […]

      Thanks Ingus for reply.

      However I just wanted to know what is the maximum memory size that zabbix server can allocate when all parameters that I listed are set as above. I just want to calculate the total memory that I must have on box not to experience any crash.

      And yes, you're right. I missed:
      ValueCacheSize=32M

        Take into account the fact that MySQL (or any DB software) needs a lot of memory.
        Do you ask about the situation when only Zabbix Server works on the server and DB works on different device/server/etc. ?

        Some hardware requirement described on Zabbix site
        Sincerely yours,
        Aleksey
