Missing thousands of items & triggers after upgrading to 2.2

I am currently running Zabbix 2.0.6. I have 1159 hosts, 102145 items and 79487 triggers. I dumped the database from the production server and imported it on our dev server to test the upgrade process. I can successfully upgrade to 2.2, but after the upgrade is complete I am down to 92276 items and 73115 triggers. That is 9869 fewer items and 6372 fewer triggers then before performing the upgrade. Where are my missing items and triggers and where are they going?

No, it is not a LLD issue. It has been more than 24 hours and the items/triggers are still missing.

Same issue with 2.4 upgrade

I am still running Zabbix 2.0.6. I now have 127609 items and 86521 triggers. I dumped the database from the production server and imported it on our dev server to test the upgrade once again.

I successfully upgraded to 2.4, but after the upgrade is complete I am missing over 11000 items and nearly 7000 triggers.

Why am I my missing so many items and triggers after an upgrade?

I recently updated from 2.0 to 2.4 and from counting the number of items/triggers in the database before and after the upgrade, they are the same. In 2.4 it looks like the query for fetching the number of items/triggers on the dashboard is different. As far as I can see 2.4 doesn't display items/triggers created by discover rules.

I did another sql dump and verified I had 129444 items and 88382 triggers in the database.

After the upgrade process I have 128618 items and 88409 triggers in the database, but Zabbix frontend is only reporting 116815 items and 79732 triggers.
