    System Very Slow

Running 4.2.4 with 240 hosts and 21k items. We're running a Debian 9.9 LAMP with 4GB RAM, 8vCPU and ceph ssd storage. the system is barely being touched with around 3% CPU utilization and 22% RAM utilization. What can I do to make the system more responsive? I've web searched tuning zabbix and getting nowhere. Ideally we would like to keep historical trends of the data captured for a year but the primary function is to monitor for problems.

Did you tune your database? If you do not do database memory related tuning, frequent disk access may occur.

Is there a guide for that? I know less about databases than I do Zabbix ...

Please tell us the database you installed and its detailed version.
And did you use the Debian standard package?
If you have changed the database settings after installation, please tell me the details of the change.

Do you monitor zabbix_server.log? Do you see messages like 'slow query ...' ?

Hi sorry for the delays in response. The MySQL is standard Debian install with the defaults. I do see errors in the log with slow queries:

1667:20190728:062541.704 slow query: 5.317007 sec, "insert into history (itemid, clock,ns,value) values (33980,1564309520,186158379,36.0497
