    How to enable/setup SNMP?

    Hi Guys,

I am new to SNMP in general, I am looking to start polling an ASA5510. I saw on the zabbix SNMP tutorial that you must have installed zabbix with SNMP. I am pretty sure I did not do this. How do I enable SNMP for zabbix?

Also, if you could give any tips for SNMP, that would be greatly appreciated. If anyone has a link or step by step for setting up SNMP for Cisco ASA devices that would be great too.

Thanks again, really appreciate the help

So I have made some progress... I still need a little help though...

I configured my Cisco ASA to send traps to my ubuntu box with zabbix. I can SNMP walk the device and it works as expected.

I cannot find my smtptraps.sh file to make the translation to zabbix from the net-snmp though. Where is the file located?Do I need to install it myself?

    Thanks for your time

you must be talkin about the file snmptrap.sh not smtptraps.sh. SMTP is the Simple Mail Transport Protocol. Anyway, the file on my system for the Zabbix server is in:
      /root/zabbix-2.0.8/misc/snmptrap/snmptrap.sh
but will deplend on where you extraced the source for Zabbix when you installed it.
