    SNMP Trap - zabbix 4.2.5

    Hello,

i have followed the Zabbix manual for getting SNMP Traps send to the server.
I have installed all programs on my Zabbix Server and I was receiving the test MSG generated by my Server in the CLI.
    Everything is working fine.
Now i moved onto a switch.
I added all commands and I see the SNMP traps in my test file however zabbix did not pick up the traps.
When looking into it a little I noticed that I had a proxy monitoring the switch.
I changed the "Monitored by proxy" to (no proxy), so this means that the server is now monitoring that host.
I create a snmp trap event (shut and no shut for a port) and I see the traps in zabbix now. When I change the host to be monitored by a proxy the traps don't show up.

Is it a requirement that the SNMP Traps need to be send to the Zabbix Proxy that is monitoring that host?

    Thank you!

    Daniel

    Hi,

The issue is that if a server / proxy receive data for any host they do not monitor it discards it.

To get around this behavior I have come up with the following solution for several instances of zabbix where we have multiple proxies.

    1. Configure SNMPTrapd and SNMPTT with an additional VIP on single server
    2. Export readonly NFS share of the SNMPTT log directory
    3. Mount readonly NFS share of the SNMPTT log directory (Step 2) using VIP(Step 1) on Zabbix server and every Zabbix proxy (soft or hard+intr)
    4. Configure Zabbix SNMPTrapper logfile on Zabbix server and every Zabbix proxy (SNMPTrapperFile=<Readonly NFS Mountpoint from Step 3)/snmptt.log)
    5. Enabled Zabbix SNMPTrapper process on Zabbix server and every Zabbix proxy (StartSNMPTrapper=1)
    6. Configure all devices to forward SNMPTraps to VIP (Step 1)
    7. Monitor the readonly NFS share (Step 2)
    8. Monitor the readonly NFS mount (Step 3)

    Pros:

    * Single VIP for devices to forward SNMPTraps
    * Ability to migrate the VIP to another server without changing device SNMPTrap configuration if required
    * No need to worry what Zabbix component monitors the device as they will process the same data

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers
    James
