Importing templates from 4.0 to 3.4 and upgrade of large number of units

    Hi guys,

We produce a network device in which we changed badly implemented SNMPv2c. The values are now readable with .0 at the end of the OID correctly. The previous templates did not have such .0 at the end.

Now, if we upgrade the unit with new FW, it does not reply to old template items. I need to unlink the old one and link the new one. But if I have 4.000 units, it's almost not possible. Is there anything I can do so that I can do it better/quicker way? E.g. via import/export hosts or via some MySQL command? I need the history to be available (only the OID has changed, the key is the same). I cannot change the original template, because I cannot upgrade 4000 units at once, it is gonna take months... So I need two templates and assigning the particular one to particular host (new/old firmware). But doing this manually in the Zabbix GUI is too much time consuming for the end customer.

    Ideas which I can try?

    ---

2nd question is if I have Template for our device saved and exported from Zabbix 4.0, but the customer has 3.4 Zabbix... Is there a way he can import new template? Now, it is NOT possible. Thanks!

You can copy an existing template to a new, then modify the item you want. To replace the template with the updated device, mark all them on the “host” page and use “Mass updates”- Link templates and check “replace template”. https://www.zabbix.com/documentation...sts/hostupdate
Warn! “The Replace option will allow to link a new template while unlinking any template that was linked to the hosts before” so select and link ALL template you need.
Update all devices at the same time will not work . Therefore, joining the new template also need to enter consistently

Hi, thanks for your answer. The "replace" option after hosts' Mass update was not known to me! This was very helpful, indeed.

Btw is there any way of importing templates, etc. from newer to older Zabbix version? E.g. If I have Zabbix 4.4 running with some configuration, but need to use Zabbix 4.0 ... Thanks.

Because the template import format has changed, you will need to manually edit the new template. Of course this is possible because it is XML, but very labor-intensive.

Yeah... Exactly... I was thinking about built-in or extra app which does the conversion...
