Backup - MySQL Size

Hello guys,

I just want to know who big is your database?

I may collect to much data.
My SQL database is already 12G, only 6 month after I started monitoring server and router.

I haven't backup the database yet (I know it's bad:-(. Do you have an idea how long it can take(to backup and to restore) ?

My linux box is not realy powerful (Pentium3, 512Mo) and I would like to avoid to stop zabix for 6 hour.

What do you suggest ?

One way you could setup backup is to set mysql to do replication to another mysql server.. then you don't have to bring it down to make yoru backup, you'd always have a backup on the other mysql server... or if you wanted to.. you could make a cd backup, or whatever from that second server without distrupting the first...

What version of zabbix are you running? I know Alexei said that 1.1.x has a problem with the housekeeping function so the database isn't necessarily getting cleaned out like it is supposed to.... so that could be causing an overly large database..

Thanks for your quick reply.

I'm actualy using version 1.1.1.
So I probably have the problem with house keeping.
(actualy I'm very bad to clean my house as well :-)

My idea was more to run a script at night, which will create a backup file of the database and copy it to another server.
But I still have problem with smbclient :-(

If some people have already some script like that to share, it will be great!

Do you know who long 12G can take to create a backup file ?

Hallo
First have a look at your history files. My files getting very big, so I have to clean this a litte bit. Maybe you shoult use a shorter time period for saving for example zabbix[log].
The mysql database you can backup then with a hotcopy command like this:

mysqlhotcopy --user=USER --password=PASSWORD --allowold zabbix /tmp/backup/mysql

This normaly will be quite quick, then you have all the time to copy /tmp/backup/mysql to somwhere else.

version 1.1.2

Hello,

So, the new version 1.1.2 is out. I installed it, and good news
My database was 16Go in 6 month for 20 Hosts, and now it's 3G.
Much better :-)

mysqlhotcopy work fine, but doesn't seems to copy the file ibdata1 where the data are.
How the option to backup this file as well?
