    Error importing Template for Lenovo-EMC NAS

    Hello. I'm new to Zabbix, so I'm using an appliance version 4.0 (.vmdk with virtualbox). I wanted to be able to monitor a Lenovo EMC px4-300d and I decided to install the respective template for this device. When importing, I get "Invalid tag "/zabbix_export/version": unsupported version number." Any ideas on how to solve this? Thanks and regards.

    Hi, so the template is made (saved) with a newer Zabbix version, 4.2 or 4.4. You can check it with a text editor. In any case, two ways to proceed: 1. Use version 4.4 appliance, then you can import the template. 2. Check if you can get a 4.0 (or older) version of the template.

    It is not practical to try to manually edit a 4.4 template to a format that would be compatible with 4.0. Sometimes it is even impossible.

      I'm sorry. My version is 4.4.0-171-generic. So I guess the issue won't be the version. Any ideas please?

        What is the version in the template file?

        Where did you download the template from?

          Thanks for the reply.
          I've downloaded it from https://share.zabbix.com/storage-devices
          The template itself is https://share.zabbix.com/storage-dev...o-emc-px4-300d (Min Zabbix version 4.0.x)

            I see there is an error in the "Min Zabbix version" specification in that page, it says "4.0.x" even though the downloaded XML template file is for 4.4+:
            <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
            <zabbix_export>
            <version>4.4</version>
            <date>2019-10-24T08:30:35Z</date>

            When I try to import it in Zabbix 4.0.15, error is: "Invalid tag "/zabbix_export/version": unsupported version number." It is not possible to import that file in Zabbix 4.0.x because the file syntax has changed in newer versions.

            When I try to import it in Zabbix 4.4.4, there is no error, imported successfully.

            So, which Zabbix version is shown for example in the bottom of your Zabbix portal page? I'm asking because "4.4.0-171-generic" does not look like a Zabbix version string at all.

              I see. I checked in the command line...
              In the application, I read 4.0.16 (latest available for download in the appliance page). You get the same error as I do.

                The latest appliance in https://www.zabbix.com/download_appliance is 4.4.4.

                  You're right. I went for the 4.0 LTS. Shoud I upgrade? I usually prefer LTS versions of everything. Would it be just a matter of importing the database?

                    I totally understand you, I'm running 4.0 LTS in some environment as well, but I've run 4.4 enough elsewhere so I will upgrade really soon. I haven't ever run the appliance so I cannot give you any advice right away for upgrading it. For normal installs the upgrades have always been smooth for me (from 3.2 to 3.4 and to 4.0, and from 4.0 to 4.4 in some other system).

                    Unfortunately the Lenovo NAS template author has apparently upgraded his environment from 4.0 to 4.4 and then modified and reuploaded the template, so the template is not compatible with LTS anymore. You can try to find and reach him if he can help you, or if someone else can help you in getting an older version or even converting the template to the older syntax.

                    Of course it can be a template learning experience for you as well if you open the XML file in a text editor, create a new blank template in Zabbix, and try to recreate the template functions by copying the relevant SNMP OIDs and other settings from the file to your own template.

                      Thank you so much for the replies. I guess I'll stick with the LTS a bit longer as I'm still learning a lot. In the meantime I have a couple of Cisco UCS servers snmpv2 that also need my attention. If somehow I manage to use this template I'll let everyone to know. How do I marked this one solved?
                      Thanks and regards.

                        I believe there is no "Solved" marking available for the thread, so let's just agree this solved between us Happy learning with the templates! It's rewarding when you take a template, use it, and later find out how to make it even better by yourself.
