I suspect this is a misunderstanding on my part, but I'm confused about the active agent function. I have a small home lab with a mix of proxmox VMs, containers and a NAS, which I'm looking to monitor. I've configured discovery and my devices are showing up in the hosts list.
My plan was to then work my way through the list installing the agent on each discovered device, adding the appropriate template to each host as I went. However, I've found that this does not work as I expected. If I add the agent, configure it and then add the "Template OS Linux - active agent" to the host object on the server, the device shows up as unknown - the host list does not highlight the 'ZBX' icon and the dashboard 'unknown' count does not update the device. If I add an application template to the host, it then works as expected. If I add the non-active template, it works, but with limited data. As far as I can see, I cannot simply spin up a basic Linux server and monitor it with the active agent.
Whats throwing me is that according to the documentation, this is how its meant to behave: https://www.zabbix.com/documentation...wn_host_status. So I guess my question is, if my above understanding of how it works is incorrect, then whats the correct way to do this?
