    testing agent/server

    All I was going through the setup and I ma looking for a quick simple way to just test if the server can talk to the agent and vice versa, can anyone point me to a way of testing to make sure it works.

    Thanks

    You may use utility zabbix_get. For example:

    zabbix_get -s zabbix.company.com -k agent.ping

        Hmm I seem to be having some sort of issue here not sure where to go with this.

        hwm06 ~ # zabbix_get -s newsfe19.phx -k agent.ping
        Error: Connection reset by peer

        Does the agent daemon log actions anywhere? I couldn't find a log file anywhere for it. Also do you have to have a User Param setup for ping to work on the agent box?

        Thanks

          yes the agent will create a log file whereever it's configuration file tells it, there is a line available
          Code:
          logfile=/log_file_here
          where you can tell it where to log events., you will likely also want to set
          Code:
          debuglevel=4
          so that you will get all the information you can.

          No you don't have to setup anything for agent.ping to work, it's built in to the agent.

            That's odd Dan I had it setup to log to syslog yet notta was getting there I am confused. This is on a Gentoo install and not installed from portage rather from source and the box runs sysklogd any clue as to why it wasn't logging correctly?

              Umm not sure... I've only had it setup to log to a file.. maybe just give that a try to see if you get any info?

                Directly to a file it seems fine, but I think there is an issue on the system level in regards to syslog. I would prefer to have it go to syslog since those are rotated automaticaly, but I guess I can figure something out.
