latest data empty with zabbix 2.4.2

    Hello,

I'm using apache 2.4.10 with php 5.6.2 and zabbix 2.4.2

When I go to latest data, there's nothing, I cannot even select a host or a group. I've increased some parameters but still nothing. Only graphs work.

    php_value post_max_size 512M
    php_value memory_limit 512M

What could be the issue ?

    Thanks

Is there anything suspicious in httpd log files?
Did it work before? If yes, what has been changed?
What size is your Zabbix installation?

It's a fresh small install with 5 hosts: 1 zabbix template + 4 ping template.
apache logs look nice, no problem.

I just tried again (with another PC) and it seems to be working !
I do not understand because I didn't changed anything.

I'll try again with the first PC.
But could it be possible that "latest data" is not available before 1 or 2 days of log ?

Also Seeing Blank Page on latest.php

Zabbix was displaying the latest.php page properly for me, until I applied a SNMP template to 30-40 devices, each collecting about 500-600 SNMP items. Now, whenever I go to the latest.php page, I receive a blank page.

Once I started receiving the blank page, I removed the template and items from the relevant monitored devices. Additionally, I went into other pages and changed the group to which I was limiting results. Still no joy...

        Apache version is 2.2.15
        Zabbix version is 2.4.2

After checking on another workstation, I am seeing the same result. Working under the theory that it might have been a cache-related issue, I tried the following without success:

        zabbix_server -R config_cache_reload

        Any ideas?

          And More Data...

...after reading about other's introduction to the search / filter functionality, I went back and searched for the class of device for which I wanted to display results. Once the search results came back, I clicked on "latest data" for a single device and the latest.php page started displaying properly again.

          So, to restore:

          1. Enter a name of a single device in text entry box near "Search" button
          2. Click on "Search" button in upper right-hand of Zabbix screen
          3. When results display, click on "Latest data" to display latest data
          4. Change to desired filter

...now, why is the behavior occurring?

Checking out the /var/log/httpd/ssl_error_log file shows several errors like the following (varying only in which subroutine/function the error occurs):

          - - - - -
PHP Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 32 bytes) in /usr/share/zabbix/include/classes/html/CTag.php on line 291, referer: https://servername/zabbix/latest.php...set=1&groupids[]=9&hostids[]=10224&sid=77e9c5489372eb08
          - - - - -

Updating the memory_limit parameter in the /etc/php.ini has not effect. Neither does inserting "ini_set('memory_limit', '128M');" at the top of the latest.php page. Thus, after reading that the above typically is due to the application, I then went through the Zabbix bugs list, whereupon I found the following two bugs:

The first discusses the behavior of Zabbix 2.0 versus 2.2 and above. One quote of interest:

          - - - - -
          Upgrade notes for zabbix 2.2.0:

Latest data page now sends data for all entries, including collapsed ones. This may considerably increase page size in some instances.
          - - - - -

The second is a fix revolving around setting the default behavior of Zabbix to display "None" instead of "All" on certain pages (Administration, General, Dropdown first entry).

Neither of the above really resolves the issue I run into...I ran some timings, with the following assumptions:

          1. The template that I apply to each host perform LLD and ends up creating about 600 items per host
          2. The server is operating as normal, with normal load, and nothing showing in top
          3. PHP is set to a memory_limit of 128M
          4. CacheSize in Zabbix was set anywhere between 64MB and 1G, with no appreciable difference in timings
          5. Working on a Macbook Pro running OS/X version 10.9.5
          6. Using Google Chrome version 39.0.2171.27 beta 64-bit (but also tried Firefox 36.0a1)

The first column represents the number of hosts with the template applied. The second column represents the number of items that would be downloaded and displayed, if all of the + marks were expanded. The third column represents the amount of time that it took to display the latest.php page, after having previously applied a filter of "Host group" and "Application"...

          02 hosts 1200 00-01 second
          04 hosts 2400 02-03 seconds
          08 hosts 4800 04-05 seconds
          16 hosts 9600 08-10 seconds
          24 hosts 14400 14-16 seconds

...and the blank page starts appearing...and once the blank page appears, even unlinking and clearing the items from the individual hosts does not make the latest.php page display correctly.

The above appears to show the issue as linear in nature, as doubled amount doubles the time required to display. But is it due to the amount of data being transferred, or something else completely?

          Still at a loss...

          Addendum:

After inserting "ini_set('memory_limit', '1G');" the page loads correctly. Obviously, consuming that much memory is not reasonable...

Just to add, that i am too recieving this problem.

I've just set this system up to show my boss, i'm looking like a bit of a plonker at the moment haha

a way around it for me was to click on show filter and type in the host group. Not sure if that will work for those with lots of hosts in the group

              I'm also seeing this.

I'm seeing this as well. Actually, I'm kind of relieved - at least I know that data is being collected!

Any clues what I can do to get data to display when I click on "Latest Data" without having to search for a host?

Any progress with this issue ? Having zabbix 2.4.3 on Ubuntu, no errors in apache logs.
But - Latest Data is empty unless to do search for host. No menus, like in version 2.0, where you could easily and quickly choose, which host you need.
My install now consists only of 2 hosts.

                  Hi,

Monitoring -> Latest data in 2.4 will always be empty unless you click on Show filter link in the middle of the screen and select a host group or host.

The functionality with dropdowns as in 2.0 and 2.2 was changed due to performance issues on large environments.

Anyways I don't think that you need to check any error logs in this case. Unless you are not out of PHP memory (very unlikely) you should be able to click and filter anything from the frontend without any issues.

                  Best Regards,
                  Ingus

                    I've Zabbix 3.0.0

The problem is that I did not even get FILTER buttons on page.

Search->Latest data is working. I think my similar kind of problems with 3.0.0 could be traced to php maximum script runtime (300 seconds) and also I got the memory problem until I increased memory limits of PHP.

                      Latest data Filter reset

You may reset filter for latest data using this php request:

Replace your.zabbix.server.com with your zabbix server name or IP

Is there similar option to keep filter for historic reasons but not to run it - like not clicking "Apply". Because running takes the time.

I do not know for sure. I did not use this feature.
