I'm trying to create a trigger prototype that will trigger when a test value <> specific text

I have the following:

{O365-Service-Status:o365.Status.pt5m[{#ID},common].iregexp(^ServiceOperational,)}=0

Is this correct or have i missed something?

This looks correct but you don't need that comma after regex pattern (empty parameter is the same as no parameter). But why are you in a doubt that this will work? Haven't you tried it?

I have an item that is currently a different status and it doesn't alert.

It creates all the triggers for me as I expect, but I am not seeing them pop up in my alert and all triggers say "ok"

Am I correct in assuming this will trigger a problem when the last recieved value doesn't equal ServiceOperational?

Yes, but "when the last received value doesn't start with serviceoperational" (since you have the ^ symbol at the beginning).
