Trapper items showing as having no data even though they have history

    Hi,

I am having a few issues with some trapper items showing as having no data even though they have history. My understanding of a trapper item is that it will show the last received item until it is sent new data (unless it has not received an item within the history retention period), so I don't understand how it can have no data if it has no expectation of how often it should be receiving data.

I am using Zabbix 2.2 and I have an LLD rule that generates several trapper item prototypes and an external application that uses zabbix sender to send the discovery and item data to Zabbix every 10 minutes. The discovery data gets sent in one transaction and then the item data to populate the items generated from the discovery gets sent in another transaction. During every item send, most of the items get updated however, if a particular condition is not met, three of these items will not get updated. It's at this point that those trapper items show as having no data even though no item data was sent for these items (in other words, they weren't included in the send) and they are not becoming unsupported.

So the question is, under what circumstances will a trapper item show as having no data even though it has history? Am I missing a setting or am I misunderstanding how trapper items work? Or does it have something to do with the way I'm sending the data to zabbix?

Any assistance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I would love to crack this nut rather than have to find a workaround.

    Thanks

    Beth

    Hello,

even in the current Version of Zabbix (4.03) this behavior is still there!

If I send data do an Zabbix Trapper Item and wait two days it will be shown in the latest data with [no data] but If I open the graph and select last three days the latest value is also shown until now...

Is this a bug or a feature of Zabbix?

If yes I need to store the backup state in an other tool but I want to use Zabbix for that!

Many thank's for your support in advance!

      Hi,

      Increase the value of ZBX_HISTORY_PERIOD.

And please be aware the setting will be overwritten bu the next update (e.g to 4.0.4) and you will have to set it again.

        Hello Ingus!

you ar the man! --> That is the solution!

        I change the parameter
        Code:
        //define('ZBX_HISTORY_PERIOD', 86400);
        define('ZBX_HISTORY_PERIOD', 3456000); //40 Days
        in the file
        Code:
        /usr/share/zabbix/include/defines.inc.php
        Many Thank's!

          Hey,

          Glad you got this fixed.
Just for info, performance is the reason for this limitation. Now for such items Zabbix will have to go back much further in the database to fetch the latest values. This can take more time and cause more load on the DB servers. If you notice anything similar, try reverting the change or lower the time period to not as much as 40 days.

The Zabbix Server is running on an NetApp SSD Cluster, so I/O load is not the issue at all after I increase the mariadb innodb_buffer_pool_size to 80% of RAM as figured out with this MySQL Tunning script...

A Graph of 20Items with an 15Sec. Intervall opens for the last 7 days (804 600 entries) within two seconds...
