Database upgrade failure Zabbix 3.0 to 5.0

I tried the upgrade of our Zabbix server from 3.0 to 5.0 yesterday and all of the steps went smoothly until time for the database upgrade. Zabbix log shows the following:

There's a lot online regarding this error, but there's nothing I've tried so far that seems to work.

CentOS 7
MySQL 5.6.48

plus, since I am using docker I was thinking about rolling back to my previous version but I can't find any docker image relative to the db version 04050003... (I was using :latest tag and that's all I can say)
4.4 seems to be 04040000 and there's no 4.5.

For me, the resolution was to upgrade the MySQL version from 5.6 to 5.8. After that, the database was able to upgrade.
