updating to 5.0, hosts work for ServerActive on zabbix-agent 4.4 but not on 5.0

I updated my server to 5.0. It was able to connect to hosts on zabbix-agent 4.4 with ServerActive and get data. After updating hosts to 5.0 no data is produced, though when trying a non-active template it works. I tried many configuration settings but no success. Apparently, as the non-active mode works the installation must be correct. This is the first time I run into problems with Zabbix that I cannot debug and resolve, to me it seems there is a bug.
