Vmware - which template does which

    Hi,

As I see it there are 3 official VMware templates.

    Template_Virt_VMware-2.2.0.xml
    Template_Virt_VMware_Guest-2.2.0.xml
    Template_Virt_VMware_Hypervisor-2.2.0.xml

Guest and hypervisor are obvious. What is "Template_Virt_VMware-2.2.0.xml" used for?

I should say, perhaps guest isn't obvious. Would guest connect to a guest and then talk to vmware-tooks some how? Do the templates have any documentation?

    Tks.

VMware - which tempalte does which

    bignose,
Here are the items in the template. Does not look like much here.

    Version vmware.version[{$URL}]
    Full name vmware.fullname[{$URL}]
    Event log vmware.eventlog[{$URL}]

I'm trying to get these going to but right now I'm getting a http 301 from the SOAP request, which means the page has "Moved Permenantly".

I was told that there is no configuration on the VMware side but I'm not so sure of that now.

What did you set for your {$URL} macro?

I'm having a bit of trouble with them as well. I enabled this about 16 hours ago and so far about 3 items ahve returned any data.

I applied both Template_Virt_VMware-2.2.0.xml and Template_Virt_VMware_Hypervisor-2.2.0.xml to a ESXi host and only the items from Template_Virt are working.

Very interesting. What version of Zabbix are you using. I'm running 2.2.2. I have tried setting the {$URL} macro to both:
          (secure)

          and
          (plain http)

If I hover over the error box for that item while viewing the latest data for any of the items I see the error message:
Cannot complete login due to an incorrect user name or password.

Initiall I thought it was a certificate problem becuase the vmware docs for the DSK say that certificates need to be install. I ran tcpdump on the system and certificates are not the problem. It's getting to the post and getting data back from the SOAP request saying that the page has moved permanently.
