SNMP Interface woes

Hi All:

Running Zabbix 2.4.4 on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. Just updated/upgaded via apt-get this morning and got a new update.

I am fairly new to zabbix but have spent almost a week working through several issues. I am stuck with one that I can not seem to figure out. I am using the SNMP templates that are provided (generic, device, interfaces) etc.

My main problem is I do not see the interfaces being discovered and therefore do not see graphs for the interfaces. I do get good healthy checks on the SNMP status and am pulling uptime, contact, location, etc.

I see this in the server log quite frequently and not sure if this is a clue as to what might be going on or not:

So I have changed a couple hosts to use the public ro snmp community name and now the interfaces get discovered and graphs created. I had gone through and updated the items to change the snmp community to the proper community that I want to use but for some reason that change perhaps did not take or somewhere in the template mechanism it is not getting passed through correctly. That part of how zabbix works is a bit vague to me.

If anyone has any suggestions or ideas about what I may have misconfigured I would appreciate some guidance.
