Printers - SNMP - Wrong problem name

    Hello all,

We are using Zabbix 4.0, and we are monitoring our new Xerox printers (Versalink C405 and Altalink C8030).
I've linked the templates below to the printers host group, downloaded on the zabbix ressources site :
    - Template SNMP Device
    - Template SNMP Printer

I've setup some alerts regarding the supplies level. We are using snmp v1/2 on the printers.

Some of them are working OK, but for some reason, for some of the problems (for example black toner, or waste cartridge...) , the name is different or strange.

For example, different problems of the printers :

unknow supply --> Problem started at 15:18:53 on 2020.11.19 Problem name: Fan Filter, PN ;SNunknown is low on printer
    ??? supply --> Problem started at 09:13:08 on 2020.11.09 Problem name: 4B 69 74 20 64 65 20 6D 6F 64 75 6C 65 20 70 68 is low on printer
Supply in english --> Problem started at 11:16:19 on 2020.11.04 Problem name: Cyan Toner Cartridge, PN 106R03538;SN060061001F090000 is low on printer
Supply in french --> Problem has been resolved at 11:53:42 on 2020.10.26 Problem name: Cartouche de toner jaune, PN Genuine Xerox(R) Toner;SN7A005E0033120000 is low on printer

It's really annoying, because I tried to setup a widget on the dashboard, showing the issues regarding the supplies level for our printers, but the display is not very user friendly:

Name:	dashboard.jpg
Views:	1106
Size:	24.8 KB
ID:	413886

Furthermore, when I want to create a new widget (data overview for example), it seems there's one trigger for each toner + for each printer. A picture will speaks better than me (on the left, some of my printers, on the top, all the trigger names?) :

Name:	data overview.jpg
Views:	1004
Size:	249.2 KB
ID:	413887

Do you know how can I homogenize the data, in order to have, for example, one table showing the 4 toners level ... ?
Are the OID wrong defined in the template?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hello,

I suggest you try to learn more about how SNMP works before applying a template using SNMP to your devices. Not knowing can lead to more and more problems down the line.

Regarding the odd trigger names, I'd say there's macros in the trigger names. These resolve to whatever is discovered on each device, meaning if the SNMP database on your printer has a table entry called "SNunknown" there is going to be an item and a trigger for that object.
Try checking up on the tables for instance with an snmpwalk over the prtMarkerSuppliesEntry table (1.3.6.1.2.1.43.11.1.1) and see what you find.

In the widget, the item names are on top. If you want a different look on things with a data overview widget you can set "Host location" to top.
I have never had the need to see all ink supplies on all printers. Using maps is great to see where problems are currently and if supplies are low you can just use triggers to get notified.
