Can't monitor server, Zabbix Server can't connect to Zabbix Agent

    Hi,

I'm a new users and have setup the Zabbix Server and it monitors itself fine (I get all kinds of data and charts)
But when I try to do this to another server (Debian Linux, Zabbix agent is installed) and connected to port 10050. That port is reachable via the zabbix server.
I allowed the zabbix server to access the agent on the Debian Linux Machine, in the Agent config. Now absolutely nothing happens, there is no data, no logging that shows any error, even failed connection attempts or anything.
I notice that with the local zabbix server monitoring itself, there is a tag in green in the monitoring tab called ZBX that lights up and tons of templates are shown. On the Debian Server that I'm trying to monitor nothing, no templates and the ZBX is not lighting up.
Is there any way to troubleshoot this? Look up why the Zabbix server can't connect to the Zabbix agent on the Debian System? Errors? How often is data collected and how can I configure it? It seems to take a LOOOOOONG time between data collection attempts.
I currently have data collection configured both active and passive on the Debian Linux Zabbix agent, so the Agent both expects to be polled for data and also sends data actively to the Zabbix server, both (active and passive) don't work. I changed it to see if it would make a difference. Again, no data is logged about anything.

This response was in error, how to erase THIS post? (not the original question)

Sooo, Zabbix is so broken that you can't troubleshoot an incredibly trivial issues like this? So either this forum is defunct or Zabbix might be depreciated.
It looks like a decent tool, but I have in the past stumbled over opensource tools that were super broken and nobody was actually using them anymore, but told nobody about it.

Did you link the template or register the item to the host when you registered the host?

If the ZBX icon stays greyed out, I'm guessing you don't have any items configured on the server host you want to monitor?
The Zabbix server monitors itself by default, which is why you are getting data from it. Try adding a simple item to your server host (like icmpping) or add an agent ping if you have the agent installed and configured on said server host.

For any more advanced monitoring, please refer to the official documentation: https://www.zabbix.com/documentation/5.0/manual/config

Thank you! This solved this, I did not have any templates configured and did not know about templates, since they are hidden in the tabs (the tabs for some reason are kinda easy to oversee). I noticed that in the monitoring section, that the Zabbix Server itself had tons of templates defined, while my server did not have any.
Thanks for your help, I'm glad I was wrong with my post from above and Zabbix actually does work.
