Zabbix Active Agent Not Updating Availability

    Hi all,

I recently began monitoring a Windows Host and it is utilizing all active checks. Normally when using passive checks, once your host retrieves the value for the
    Code:
    agent.ping
item, Zabbix automatically updates the host availability.

With my Windows host using active checks, I am getting data from the agent and
    Code:
    agent.ping
    is returning
    Code:
    Up (1)
But the availability is all grayed out still after ~ 1 hour! Zabbix server logs are showing all good, as well as Zabbix Agent logs.

Is this a bug with Zabbix, or does active agent not change the availability status on the host list?

** NOTES ON ATTACHMENTS: First picture is expected result. Second picture is the actual result from my active agent host **

Yours is working correctly. The availability column should probably be removed. It's pretty useless. I've never paid any attention to that column. Just watch your dashboard and active triggers for availability.

Also, I'm not even sure what good agent.ping is as well. What's the point when you return CPU info from the agent to also ping it?

I never understood myself. I've never used agent.ping either.

        Brendon,

Thanks for your replies! You bring up a good point regarding the lack of necessity for agent.ping!

The only reason that I even care about showing the availability is that in my Zabbix installation I monitor hosts for other departments, whose owners sometimes like to login and see the status of their environments. So not having the availability update for this specific production environment could raise some questions from them.

While this isn't a big deal; I have the data to show and the proper triggers established, my over-arching question is: Why doesn't the availability update when using active checks?

Also, I checked out your blog! Really cool site and plan on reading more content on it.

Good luck. It never has and likely never will. If you want the answer, you'll probably have to dig into the source code. Its probably the same reason why actions can't run commands with active checks.

My suggestion to you is to edit the PHP front-end and remove that column from your mind.
