    zabbix server not starting

    Hello all

I've been running the zabbix_server/agentd combination for a couple of weeks now with no problems. Everything was fine and I was getting what I wanted out of it. Now for a reason unknown to me the server has stopped working around 12h00 today and I cant restart it.

When I delete the pid file to restart the server I get no message no logs the server just won start BUT creates the pid file anyways. I saw a post on the beta forum that was giving directions to modify server.c but I'm running 1.1.1 which souldnt have this problem.

Also I tried the latest 1.1.2 and got the same problem. No change was done in my config files or servers, I use it to monitor lab computers that are doing different tasks.

I posted an strace and gdb on a webserver for your re-viewing. I'm no programmer but I can get you the logs/traces you need.

I'm running the server on a Slack 10.2 install compiled from source. Please tell me if you need any additional detail.

    Thank you very much

Anything in server's log file? Have you checked consistency of ZABBIX database?

Nothing happens in the logfile while trying to start the server. I will do some research to check the db sine I'm not very savvy on mysql...

I think I checked the tables properly, please view log and tell me if I didnt do it proper.

        Greetings,

We can easily eliminate the DB by simply creating a new test database. Change the configuration for your zabbix_server and try to start it against the test DB. If it works, then we will know if it is an issue with the DB schema, if it still fails to start, we can go down other troubleshooting paths.

          Allright!

Did what was suggested. Created database testz and changed config file for server (db name), gave it another try with no success.

          Here are the relevant logs:

Okay, the good news is that it is most likely not a DB issue.

Can you post the configuration options you used for the zabbix_server please. Additionally, check disk space availability, memory availability, and run an ldd against the zabbix_server.

Checked all that at first, but here it is for troubleshootings sake.

              Mem: 904444k total, 524212k used, 380232k free, 105396k buffers
              Swap: 1461904k total, 0k used, 1461904k free, 217876k cached

              So mem is no problem.

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
              /dev/sda2 144G 31G 106G 23% /

              Disk space is cool

ldd hu?? Will check that right away.

              --edit--

              here the requested info:

So Mr Wells and Alexei, anything else I should try before I give up?

I am out of ideas here... Everything appears to check out correctly, and the dumps / logs are not giving enough information. I am continuing to look into this, but am pretty much stumped.

I had this issue once where no data was collected but I couldn't see errors in any logs.

From the front end, I stopped monitoring all the servers. After a few seconds, I restarted each agent and it worked again.

My guess was that one of the servers returned data that somehow messed up data from the other servers.

                      zabbix_server dies

                      Hi!

If it helps.I have the same problem on slack 10.2, kernel 2.6.15.6 when I want to upgrade from 1.1 to 1.1.1 or 1.1.2.Zabbix_server compiles ok, but when i start server one process dies.I use the same zabbix_server.conf file for v1.1 and v1.1.1 or 1.1.2.
Zabbix v1.1 runs perfectly well with net-snmp 5.2.1 compiled in. So I suggest to try zabbix v1.1. I have not tried to compile v1.1.2 without snmp support yet.
I also run out of ideas what could be wrong.

                        heres some other relevant information:

                        net-snmp version 5.2.3

                        mysql version: mysql-standard-4.1.21-pc-linux-gnu-i686

I will try to compile and install zabbix 1.1 and see...
