FixSSL connect error: gnutls_handshake() failed without recompile?

    Hello,

We have issues regarding the web monitoring part of Zabbix.
We run the latest (2.4.5) version on Debian 7.8.

The problem is that our web monitoring part stopped working for certain websites. The error we receive is:
cannot process step "URL" of web scenario "monitor URL" on host "HOST": SSL connect error: gnutls_handshake() failed: A TLS packet with unexpected length was received.

I have found a fix which involves recompiling Zabbix:

We have Zabbix installed with the repo's. Zabbix is vital for us, so it isn't really an option to remove the Zabbix repo version and completely recompile by hand.

Is there anyone having a quick/easy/dirty fix?
I have already tried upgrading libcurl to the latest version, and installing the OpenSSL version of libcurl and then reinstalling from repo. Unfortunately this doesn't work.

The commandline curl of the same URL works as expected.

If recompiling is really the only option, does anyone know if files will be placed in the same paths so we can preservice config files etc etc..?
