Linux SNMP Interfaces being polled every 3 minutes

    Hi,

I have spent a lot of time searching Zabbix before posting this, so I really hope the answer isn't something simple because I will cry!

We use Zabbix at my new place of employement and I must say, I've really grown to love it in the first 4 weeks we've been using it, so I decided to try it at home. I'm currently using Librenms, but slowly moving everything into Zabbix.

The only problem I am really struggling with though is my Vyos (Linux based) router and the polling of traffic from it's interfaces. All traffic is polled using SNMP. What I'm seeing is that things like Swap Usage etc are being polled every minute:

    Code:
    Ferrari (Primary): Free swap space

    2021-05-30 07:58:06 1622318286 0
    2021-05-30 07:57:06 1622318226 0
    2021-05-30 07:56:06 1622318166 0
    2021-05-30 07:55:06 1622318106 0
    2021-05-30 07:54:06 1622318046 0
But my Network Interfaces, the ones I really want to see updated every 60 seconds, are being updated every 3 minutes (180 seconds)

    Code:
Ferrari (Primary): Interface eth0(WAN Interface): Bits received

Here are the templates in use:

    Image of Templates I'm Using

It's the standard Linux SNMP template, with all the sub-templates that it brings in automatically.

What I've done is click on: Configuration->Templates->Interfaces SNMP then looked in "Items" assuming that somewhere there will be an Interval that says "3m" but there's nothing. So then I just ended up looking at ALL items and searching for things that run every 3 minutes, but only "Extreme EXOS" is shown (twice) and one QTech QSW item. None of which appear to be linked to Linux SNMP.

So I'm fully stumped why Swap Space is every 1 minute being polled, but Network Interfaces are being polled every 3. I've checked for 3m/180 in /etc/zabbix on the server, but nothing, and I've crawled through the GUI to try and find where 3m might be define as a default somewhere. But everything is turning up blanks.

So I ask nicely, could someone point to how to graph Linux hosts, via SNMP, every minute? I'm sure the answer will make me cry, but I have searched everything I can think of.

    Many thanks!

    Tim

System: Zabbix 5.4 on Debian 10 (MySQL)
Host I'm trying to poll every 3 minutes: Vyos router v1.2.7

Hi, within one of the SNMP templates there is one that has one or more discovery rules for the network interfaces. The discovery rule has one or more item prototypes, and that's where the items are generated, so there is the item interval as well.

You may want to create a macro like {$IF_INTERVAL} and use that as the item interval in the item prototypes, and set the macro to the value you like. That way you can easily change the interval later host by host. (Your template may even have a macro for that purpose already.)

Markku Thank you so much! Not only have I found where the 3m interval was lurking, but I have learnt yet another thing about how Zabbix works (and how amazingly flexible it is)

      Thank you again!
