Issue with how hosts are sorted in a graph widget data set

When you make a graph widget (not classic) with one host and multiple items, the items are sorted alphabetically in the dashboard tooltip - eg https://imgur.com/J0RbeRE , however if you instead use multiple hosts with the same item, the hosts are not sorted - eg https://i.imgur.com/I9vnuXU.png . This is the case both by manually listing the hosts alphabetically, and by wildcard - the result is the same.
Is this a bug and is there a way to workaround this behavior, for example with a config edit somewhere? This is version 4.2.4.
It seems a specific kind of sorting is used, because it is the same between different graphs and widgets for this set of hosts. It is also not related to the ID of the hosts or the host items.
