Tried updating to 6.0 from 5.4, failed horribly

    Hi,

So I have been following the steps listed here:

Zabbix is being downloaded over 4 000 000 times every year for a reason. Download and install Zabbix for free and try it yourself!

And I am not sure what exactly I have done but now, I can't seem to do anything.

I have reached the point where I tried to remove all the zabbix packages using sudo apt autoclean and autoremove so I can start again, but now I can't seem to even start again, as when I try to download and install the 6.0 LTS version, this is what I get:

zabbix-agent is already the newest version (1:4.0.17+dfsg-1).
zabbix-frontend-php is already the newest version (1:4.0.17+dfsg-1).
zabbix-server-mysql is already the newest version (1:4.0.17+dfsg-1).
zabbix-sql-scripts is already the newest version (1:5.4.11-1+ubuntu20.04).

I am fairly new to Linux and Zabbix but I guess that goes without saying.

I am running the latest Ubuntu 20.04.4 LTS (focal).

    Any help would be appreciated.

There could be a couple things causing this, but it really looks like a problem with not having the appropriate repo (software repository) defined, so "apt" isn't seeing where it could get newer versions of the various Zabbix components.

Step "a" in the document you referenced was to download a tiny package that contains the appropriate repository definition, install that repository, and then "apt update". If you repeat those steps, that should add the repository definition to be able to download packages directly from the repositories created by the Zabbix developers.

Note, too, that the instructions you're referencing are for a fresh install, not an upgrade. The steps are slightly different in you're upgrading, rather than installing from scratch. I recommend you take a look at the Debian/Ubuntu upgrade instructions in the Zabbix manual: https://www.zabbix.com/documentation.../debian_ubuntu
